BeWelcome News

I'm happy to inform you that we have removed the donation bar after less than two weeks because we reached the 500 euro needed to fund the Be Active Campaign.

The Board of Directors (BoD) are now accepting Activity Proposals that comply to the Submission Guidelines. We will start the official countdown once a Newsletter has been sent to all BW members.

A big thanks to everybody who donated.

Dear fellow travelers, guests and hosts,

We are happy to announce that a couple of days ago we signed up our 50,000th member. It seems that the sudden increase in membership we have seen over the last year has turned into a constant organic growth, for which we are extremely grateful.

BeWelcome was never created to become the biggest hospex network, and we will always choose quality over quantity. That is why we recently decided to hide all "inactive" members from the default member search and…

Be decisive

Hi everyone,

the latest code was just deployed to the site.

Here's a rough list of changes:

  • The biggest addition is the 'Suggestion' feature check it out at /suggestions. It's not finished completely yet but you can already start adding problem descriptions and start discussion about them.
  • The rest of the changes are mainly improvements of functionality one that you might enjoy the most is that the delay when you post into a group or the BW forum should be much shorter now.
  • It is now possible to…

During the last General Assembly (GA) we brainstormed about ways to promote BW activities. One of the ideas was to launch a temporary donation campaign, aptly named "Be Active". The money raised (500 euro) would then be used to financially aid local BW activities.

When you log in you will see our donation bar. More information about our donation policy can be found on our donation page .

Once we raise 500 euro the donation bar will be removed and we will send out a Newsletter encouraging members…

Be found

Hi all,

after a longer pause the code driving the website was updated.

The main change is a second search option that will evolve into the main search option in the next months. It can be found here (or simply click on 'Find Members' (second item in the menu if you see the site in a different language than English)).

This search offers suggestions for places and additional options for number of possible guests and a vicinity search.

The search is language ignorant so if you search for 'Köln' or…

Thanks to everyone who participated in the voting about BeWelcome's decision making process! The result is that BeWelcome has, as of today, a new decision making process: https://www.bewelcome.org/wiki/Decision_Making_Process_for_Bewelcome (detailed results below).

To put this process into practice, our development volunteers will now work on implementing the required tools with priority.

At the same time we need to build a "Suggestions Team". If you would like to volunteer for that team, please…

Be safe

Hi all,

the dev team just released a new version of Rox the software that drives bewelcome.

The most notable addition this time is the top menu entry for 'Safety' which links to the pages dedicated to information from the Safety Team.

At the same time a widely discussed feature was hidden till it can be properly implemented: Verification.

Additionally a lot of small fixes where done support our volunteers in their work (like adding informative texts to some pages that generate a lot of tickets…

BeWelcome aspires to be a democratic hospitality network which means that decisions about the course of the community should be taken by its members.

During the first years of BeWelcome's existence decision making was very simple: Only a few members gave any input and decisions were taken without any formalized procedures. As more and more members joined the debates and gave their input, the need for a formalized decision making process became apparent and a process was defined in 2012: Decision
